...Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York...

Drove through Rhode Island, and Connecticut, on to New York. Mel's cousin Patrick lives in Manhattan and THIS was the view of the Empire State Building from his apartment!

We were so thankful to have Patrick, a local, show us around. What a fun 24hrs. We got to New York around sunset and walked something called, "The Highline". Genius. It used to be an old dilapidated raised rail road. Some "green" people came in and created a beautiful park out of it! They put planks down on the tracks, put wooden lounge chairs and landscaping along the sides for people to sit out side and read or hang out. There was a beer garden along the side that we stopped at. What a great idea!

Times Square!

In college, my favorite romantic comedy was a movie called, "Serendipity" with Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack. There is a restaurant with the same name, known for its famous frozen hot chocolates. We put our names in for a reservation that had a 45 minute wait. Patrick looked up, noticed the tram down the street that conveniently only takes about a half-hour to ride. We took the tram and soared over the city lights, when we got back, our table was ready and I finally got to drink a frozen hot chocolate! Just like Kate. So we are practically soul sisters now.

The next morning we took the FREE Staten Island ferry and got pics of the Statue of Liberty. I'd seen it before, but the last time the weather was rainy and dreary. How nice to get a beautiful sunny day with perfect weather! Not too hot and not too cold.

We met up with Mel's "Uncle Sammy", who is now my favorite Uncle in the world. He showed us EVERYTHING and took all kinds of photos. At one point, he had all three of our cameras around his neck. So cute.

Central Park. Amazing how quiet it is inside, you don't really even hear the city.

Grand Central Station!
